NAMI

All funds raised will benefit National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI, Contra Costa chapter).  Your donation will be used by NAMI to provide programs in schools focused on early detection and recognizing the warning signs of mental illness in children.

Anxiety and Depression among young people ages 13-24 has tripled in the past decade.  Sadly because of the stigma surrounding mental health, only 20% of people seek help.  Unaddressed mental health conditions can lead to drug and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, self-harm, lower academic performance, and other risky or violent behaviors, ultimately suicide. In fact, statistics show that:

  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people ages 10-24
  • 90 % of those who died by suicide had an underlying mental health condition
  • Half of all mental health conditions begin by age 14, 75% develop by age 24
  • Recent data shows that the bulk of crisis calls requiring police intervention in Central and Southern CCC have come from Danville

NAMI provides resources that help identify and support individuals living with and families struggling with a mental health condition though outreach, education and advocacy.  Programs for early intervention can spare people unnecessary suffering.
